Starship Preps for Fourth Orbital Test Flight
Targeting Launch on March 14th
SpaceX's ambitious Starship program is gearing up for its fourth orbital test flight, scheduled for launch on March 14th at 9:25 AM EDT.
This marks a significant milestone for the company, following the successful launch and landing of its first full-scale Starship prototype, SN15, in May 2021. However, the program has also faced setbacks, including the catastrophic explosions of SN8 and SN9 during previous test flights.
The upcoming flight test, designated SN20, will be the first to include a full complement of six Raptor engines and a payload fairing. SpaceX plans to conduct a series of tests during the flight, including a powered ascent to orbital speed, a controlled reentry, and a landing at the company's designated landing site in the Gulf of Mexico.
