Hughes Takes Over from Bo Horvat, Traded to Islanders in January

The Vancouver Canucks have named 23-year-old defenseman Quinn Hughes as their new captain. Hughes is the first defenseman to hold the honor since Trevor Linden from 1990-91. He takes over from Bo Horvat, who was traded to the New York Islanders in January.

"Quinn is a special player and a true leader on and off the ice," said Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin. "He has the respect of his teammates, coaches, and the entire organization, and we are confident he will be an excellent captain for the Vancouver Canucks."

Hughes has been a key part of the Canucks' resurgence this season, helping them into playoff contention. He has 38 points in 55 games, including 10 goals. He is also a strong defender, averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game.

"It's an honor to be named captain of the Vancouver Canucks," said Hughes. "I love this team and this city, and I'm excited to lead us to success."

Hughes will be the 17th captain in Canucks history. He is the first American-born player to hold the honor.
